Pride Edinburgh 2016:
OFFICAL PRESS STATEMENT:
Pride Edinburgh returns to the capital on Saturday 2nd July 2016, however it is with regret that we must announce the cancellation of the Pride Edinburgh Main Stage for this year’s event.
This is due to Edinburgh City Council’s totally unexpected refusal to licence the planned outdoor event at Greenside Place or the alternate back up location adjacent to the Omni Centre.
However Pride Edinburgh’s presence will remain on the 2nd July with the Pride Scotia March assembling outside the City Chambers from 1pm following a new route through the city culminating at the Omni Centre. We are also delighted that the Omni Centre will host a Health and Community fair.
We can confirm that our Trans engagement space (run in collaboration with the Scottish Transgender Alliance and the LGBT Health and Wellbeing Centre) will be located at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel on Picardy Place.
We are also delighted the Order of Perpetual Indulgence will be bringing their annual Tea Dance to Pride Edinburgh which will be located in Chalky’s Night Club during the afternoon.
LGBT Youth Scotland’s Youth Space will also be available for younger members of the community to enjoy, please check their website www.lgbtyouth.org.uk for further details.
The night before Pride, Friday 1st July will see our very special Absolutely Fabulous the Movie, Release Party in conjunction with Fox Searchlight Pictures, Vue Cinemas and Chalky’s nightclub with Bolly and prizes galore, this event promises to launch the eagerly anticipated film and Pride Edinburgh 2016 in spectacular style.
Despite the cancellation of the Main Stage, many of our acts will be appearing on Pride Day at the various Scene bars and venues with full details of these provided on our website, however we are delighted that our headline star from Ru Paul’s Drag Race – Morgan McMichael – will now be appearing In Chalky’s for a performance and meet and greet.
Finally, Pride Edinburgh would like to take this opportunity to launch our promotional campaign video. The video showcases the diverse and accepting nature Edinburgh offers thereby encapsulating everything Pride stands for. It illustrates how Pride is not a single event but rather a feeling that every individual should celebrate. We would like to thank CC Blooms and Monumental Marketing for funding this specific project. The video can be viewed at https://youtu.be/cTGXbF2duk
I would like to thank in advance all our sponsors, stall holders, scene venues, event volunteers and my hard working committee for continuing to produce an event for 2016 that truly celebrates our diverse city, I look forward to welcoming you (perhaps personally) to Pride Edinburgh 2016.
Full details of this year’s event can be found at www.prideedinburgh.org.uk
